Ski Season

in New Hampshire's Upper Valley

Playing in the snow is in our DNA in Hanover, New Hampshire. Credited as one of the birthplaces of Winter Sports in North America, Hanover offers an abundant array of outdoor recreation each winter. From ice skating to downhill skiing, Hanover and Dartmouth offer top-notch facilities and world-class instructors for winter sports enthusiasts of all experience and skill levels.

Dartmouth skiers helped pioneer the sport: they have participated in every Winter Olympics since the first games were held at Chamonix in 1924 and the college & town boasts more U.S. Ski Hall of Famers than any other location or institution in the country. In fact, The Hanover Inn even enjoys a small footnote in this local tradition: the legendary Ford Sayre Ski Academy began its life as The Hanover Inn Ski School, operated by Inn managers Ford & Peggy Sayre in the 1940s.

X-Country & Nordic Trails

Before downhill skiing was the most popular form of the sport, the Hanover and Dartmouth community flocked to the hills just outside of town for cross-country and nordic-style skiing at the Oak Hill Outdoor Center. Today you can still ski these fields and trails. Enjoy complimentary rentals at Oak Hill Outdoor Center or sign up for lessons with one of their instructors. Oak Hill recently installed trail lighting for night skiing, allowing you more time on the trail than ever before!

Learn to Ski Jump

Hanover has a proud history of Ski Jumping. One of the first ski jumps in the country was errected on Oak Hill in the early 20th century. Today, that legacy lives on at Storrs Hill Ski Jump, where the Ford Sayer Ski Club practices twice a week. Confident skiiers are invited to join one of these free evening practices. Or, book a private jumping coach and reserve the Storrs Hill ski jump for a lesson.

About Our Home Mountain

The Dartmouth Skiway

Dartmouth Skiway is our home mountain. Located just up the road in Lyme, NH the Skiway boasts two peaks, short lift lines, and just-right terrain for every level. It’s the kind of place where skiing still feels personal—unhurried, scenic, and unmistakably local. As Indy Pass puts it, Dartmouth Skiway is “a return to the simple unvarnished New England skiing,”. A truly authentic New Hampshire skiing experience, the ski area is laid back, family friendly and features a beautifully remodeled base lodge with full amenities.

30 trails across 100+ skiable acres with wide groomers, classic New England steeps, and winding wooded runs. The mountain is served by two chairlifts (a quad and a double) plus beginner surface lifts, with over 60% snowmaking coverage to keep conditions reliable all winter.

You don’t come to the Dartmouth Skiway for champagne powder. You don’t come for thousands of feet of continuous vert or high-speed quads or a gourmet, overpriced lunch at the lodge. Those things are great – and you can find them at a lot of other ski areas across the world. Instead, the Skiway offers something you can only find here: a return to the simple, unvarnished New England ski experience with that quintessential Dartmouth character.
