The food you eat...
We anticipate you will honor your membership in the "Clean Plate Club" when you dine with us, however, if you are unable to fulfill the club code we will compost anything you may leave behind. The Dartmouth Organic Farm uses our compost along with others to help grow the plants that we serve in our restaurant when they are available.
Food Purchasing is accomplished by being sensitive to the local farmers; our goal is to consider and take full advantage of our abundant natural resources. Executive Chef Jason Merrill works with local farmers and vendors to serve fresh farm-to-the-table ingredients for you to enjoy at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ask about our "Localvor Specials." Chef Merrill has made sure that 75% of the products come from a 50-mile radius of The Hanover Inn. We encourage you to consider this approach when you return home. If you are already buying products produced locally, thank you
Please feel free to ask for a complete list of farms and local vendors while visiting The Hanover Inn.
You will not find the little plastic bottles in your room upon arrival, but you will have all the amenities you would expect of a first-class hotel. We provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash in your room, dispensed from a large bottle for your convenience and to eliminate throwing away an average of 75,000 plastic bottles each year. We suggest you encourage other hotels to do the same!
We provide recycling waste baskets in all our guest rooms and public areas so you can participate in our efforts to reduce what ends up in our land fills. All paper, plastic, glass and tin are recycled so you can feel better that the waste you leave behind is being properly managed. If you have any waste that you are unsure where it goes please ask anyone of our staff for assistance.
Cleaning Products we use are LEEF, meeting the Green Seal's Standard minimizing the chemicals that are used in your guest rooms, kitchen facility and public areas. We do all we can to minimize the amount of chemicals and those we use are as safe for the environment as we can find.
The desk chairs in many of our rooms are the Think Chair by Steel Case and are 41% recycled material and 99% recyclable. Many of our guests have told us that these chairs are extremely comfortable. If you are interested in purchasing a chair for your home or office, please go to www.steelcase.com and search for Think Chair.
Your sheets and towels will be changed every other day, unless you ask us to change them more or less often. We welcome any and all requests you may have relating to what is more comfortable for your visit. Many of you have become accustomed to this and it may not appear to be a significant issue anymore, but remember each day we don't wash the linen from a guest room we are saving a load of laundry you do at home. With over 25,000 guests each year it makes a significant impact.
We have recently installed water-free urinals in the men's public restrooms, reducing our water use by more than 75,000 gallons each year.
All the paint we use is latex, eliminating out gassing of and reducing the manufacturing, clean up and disposal of oil base paints.
We feel very good about the progress we have made and know we have a great deal of work ahead of us. We are committed to improving our efforts each and every day and welcome all your help and any suggestions.
We are planning a full renovation of The Hanover Inn within the next few years and we intend to pursue our commitment to make this a model hotel for environmental concerns. We are looking for furniture choices that can be manufactured within a 500-mile radius, using a renewable resource to make your stay not only comfortable because of the ambiance but also because you will know you are in a room that is considerate of our environment.
